Our Story

Every pet deserves a happy, healthy life, but for many pet owners, the cost of veterinary care can be a barrier to responsible pet ownership. Pet overpopulation and limited access to affordable services leave both animals and their owners struggling to find solutions.

Founded in 2003, Humboldt Spay/Neuter Network is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation and easing the financial barriers of veterinary services. Since opening, we have spayed and neutered over 35,000 dogs and cats, averaging 4,300 procedures each year. In recent years we have expanded our services and programs to include medical care beyond spay/neuter and expanded our Feral Cat TNR Program, helping pets and their owners across Humboldt thrive.

Our services include high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, wellness exams, and dental procedures to keep pets healthy and happy. Behind every service is our small but mighty team—a group of compassionate professionals who treat every pet with the same attention to detail and care as they would their own.

With grant funding, donations, and the dedication of local rescue groups, staff, and volunteers, we’re able to provide essential services, expand access to care programs, and actively reduce feral cat populations in Humboldt County. We’re proud of our work, but we can’t do it alone.

Our Team

Dr. Robyn Ott, DVM

Managing Veterinarian / Medical Director

Dr. Robyn Ott oversees the medical operations and ensures high-quality care for all patients. She performs surgical and wellness services, supervises veterinary staff, maintains compliance with veterinary regulations, and helps guide the clinic’s mission to provide accessible, compassionate care to underserved communities. Dr. Ott’s role blends quality hands-on veterinary work, focusing on efficient, high-volume spay/neuter and medical care in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. “After living the first part of my life pursuing theatre arts, my desire to give more to the human and animal communities led me to veterinary medicine. I completed my professional degree at Oregon State University, and in 2014, I followed my heart to Humboldt County. I spent 8 awesome years working in a bustling private practice before feeling a nagging desire for a new challenge and to contribute more to our community. The next step was becoming the medical director at Humboldt Spay/Neuter Clinic in 2022. I cannot rave enough about my time at HSNC so far. It is an absolute honor to work with a cohesive team motivated by a common goal of community service, medical progress, and a true love for every patient that comes through our doors. I love working here for a myriad of reasons, not the least of which is being able to shape a professional yet welcoming experience for our clients and patients and provide better access to veterinary care for those who need it most.”

LeeAnn Mozeak, RVT

Registered Veterinary Technician

LeeAnn plays a key role in supporting our veterinarian and ensuring each patient receives quality care. As an RVT, she helps maintain efficient workflows and upholds high standards in patient care. In our fast-paced, high-volume clinic, LeeAnn helps deliver compassionate, timely care to both pets and the people who love them. “After years of working at different full-service vet clinics, I wanted to get involved with shelter medicine. I enjoy working at HSNC because we put our patients first and financial restrictions last (meaning we are here to help). I am also passionate about reducing pet overpopulation and rescuing.”

Alyssa Kyrskowiak

Lead Veterinary Assistant

Alyssa provides hands-on support to both our veterinarians and RVTs while also helping guide and support the assistant team. Her role blends direct animal care with behind-the-scenes coordination, helping to maintain a positive, efficient, and compassionate environment in our high-volume clinic. Alyssa has a knack for spreadsheets and data, and she helps us track patient numbers and impact metrics with precision. “I love HSNC! I am very passionate about the mission, and I feel extremely lucky to be surrounded by animals while I work. Caring for them gives me life!”

Julia Bautista

Veterinary Assistant

Julia assists the veterinarian, RVT, and lead vet assistant by focusing on patient care and procedures. They help prep and monitor patients, maintain a clean and organized facility, and manage tech appointments. In this fast-paced, team-oriented environment, their calm and collectedness is much appreciated. “I grew up an animal enthusiast and believed animal care was my calling. Coming from working at the county animal shelter, HSNC’s mission deeply resonated with me. I worked closely with the community and our county’s animal population. The shelter’s overpopulation has driven me to do more to combat it. I’m grateful to continue to serve our community, while reducing pet overpopulation and growing my veterinary skills. I hope to become an RVT and find more ways to help our community.

Sophia Thoele

Kennel Assistant

Sophia plays a vital role supporting our medical team. She helps ensure our patients receive high-quality care from check-in and wellness appointments, to patient recovery. Her role also focuses on clinic cleanliness and maintaining proper protocols to ensure surgical packs, laundry and other vital clinic supplies are always prepared and ready for use. Sophia's positive attitude and outstanding work ethic make our busiest of days seem a less stressful. "It’s so rewarding to be part of making a difference in the community by providing affordable veterinary care and helping address overpopulation. I love working closely with animals, and I truly enjoy being part of a team of talented and passionate individuals."

Trudy Stanfield-Terres

Executive Director

Trudy provides overall leadership for the organization and works closely with the board of directors to guide strategic direction and advance our mission. Her role blends nonprofit management, compassionate leadership, and active community engagement—all rooted in a deep commitment to improving animal welfare through accessible veterinary care. “I approach this position with a deep passion for ensuring accessible and affordable veterinary care. In a world where resources for companion animals are limited, I firmly believe that the best way to prevent neglect and overpopulation is through prevention programs, such as spay/neuter and Trap-Neuter-Return, along with increased access to care. I love working here because at the heart of every issue we address is a commitment to compassion, understanding, and high-quality care.”

Ryan Steinke

Office Manager

Ryan manages the day-to-day administrative operations of the clinic, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. From scheduling to providing excellent customer service, Ryan helps create an organized, efficient, and welcoming environment for both our clients and team. Sarah Dunn

Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator

Sarah provides essential administrative support while also managing the clinic’s online presence. Her role brings together behind-the-scenes organization, compassionate customer service, and creative marketing efforts, helping to raise awareness, boost engagement, and further the clinic’s mission. “I have never had a job that is as rewarding as working at HSNC. I’m lucky enough to dip my toes in every part of the clinic, from answering calls from community members to sitting in on surgeries and taking pictures for our social media. It really puts the clinic into perspective; this small team is capable of so much! Servicing the community and having pet care be accessible to such a large population is so important, it’s an honor to work here!”
