Spaying as a Health Preventative!

Spaying goes further than population decrease, it also is a great preventative to avoid severe health issues down the road!

This community cat was brought in with severely swollen mammary glands due to her having a condition called Feline Juvenile Mammary Hypertrophy. FJMH is something that can occur in sexually intact cats that causes enlargement of the mammary glands that can result in ulceration of the glands, skin necrosis, and trauma.

The best preventative and treatment is to spay/neuter cats to avoid any risk of them producing hormones that will cause the Mammary Hypertrophy.

This cat also was suffering from a pyometra, an infection of the uterus that turns deadly quick! The timing of her spay could not have come at a better time! The infected uterus was removed, and she was given a long lasting antibiotic injection.

Spaying/neutering has a variety of benefits that include a pets overall health, behavioral issues, and (for us owners) financial struggles brought on by emergencies!
